Kouros to run at USA National 24 Hour Championship

Multiple World Record holder Yiannis Kouros is now confirmed for the USA National 24-Hour Run Championship, hosted by the Olander Park 24-Hour this coming weekend in Syvlania, OH.  The Race starts Noon, Sat., Sept. 14.

Kouros has just arrived in the USA and is resting in preparation for the event this weekend.

The race will be covered live on the website of the American Ultrarunning Association:

www.americanultra.org

The AUA website will also be posting pre-race updates on the American championship field, the weather, and other topics of interest.  There are already 170 pre-entries, breaking Olander's own previous world record (166) for the largest 24-hour race field in history.

Kouros holds the 24-hour world records for indoor track, outdoor track, and road, and is the only athlete in Track & Field history to own all three marks for the same event.

To provide some perspective, Kouros' current 24-hour certified road and track records are 180 miles, 589 yards; and 188 miles, 1038 yards, respectively.  No other man has ever broken 172 miles for 24 hours on any venue, and Kouros has done it over a half dozen times, twice en-route to 48-hour race victories.

He is one of only a handful of individuals in history to have run, under continuous official observation, for 24 hours straight without walking a single step or stopping for even a second.  His 24-hour track record represents a continuous run at an average steady pace of 7:39 per mile; or, more than 7 consecutive marathons at 3 hours, 20 minutes each.
