24 October 2002 MUT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bids Sought for Mountain, Ultra, and Trail Championships The Mountain/Ultra/Trail Running Council (MUT) of USATF Long Distance Running is accepting bids for National Championship races at the ultra and sub-ultra distances for the years 2003 and 2004.  For the first time in its history, the MUT Council is seeking bids for mountain and trail race championships in the shorter distances.  In response to the growing success of for US mountain and trail racing, this new category of championships are being offered. The distances that can be awarded championship status are: 50 km road      50 km trail 50 mile road    50 mile trail 100 mile trail  100 mile road 100 km road     24 hour road/track Sub-ultra mtn/trail races of various distances If you are interested in hosting a National Championship race in the year 2003 or 2004, please contact your regional MUT representative (listed below).  Your MUT representative will supply you with a bid form.  Or you can visit the MUT website at http://www.cerritos.edu/lgersitz/MUT/Home.html for a downloadable version of the form. Completed bid forms must be received by Friday, November 29, 2002 to insure review at the USATF Annual Meeting, which will be held December 5 –  8, 2002 in Kansas City, MO.  Not all distances will necessarily be awarded in a given year.  Race directors and the ultra, mountain, and trail running media will be notified by December 10 regarding the outcome of the selection process. Further bids may be solicited after the convention for race distances that have not been awarded.
