Ultra News for November 2000

November 1, 2000: Request for Bids To Host Ultra National Champions

As an ultradistance race director, are you aware the process of hosting an ultra national championship race?  It is not a difficult process and there are some useful incentives for you to consider. Although ultradistance championships are relatively new among USATF national title races, ultra championships receive the same benefits as the popular distance championships.

Support From USATF:  The Mountain, Ultra, and Trail Subcommittee (MUT) who solicits ultra championship bids and selects national championship races provides race directors of ultra championship races identifies a championship race liaison.  This liaison, usually a USATF representative from the area of the race, is a big help for a race director already busy with all of the responsibilities of managing a championship-caliber race.  The liaison communicates and negotiates with ultrarunners who want to participate in the championship.  The liaison obtains the
championship medals for your race at no expense to the race and will be present at the race to assist with USATF championship information.

National Exposure for You Race:  Ultrarunners from around the country interested in participating in a national championship may participate in your race if it is a national championship.  More runners can increase the profitability and popularity of your race.

Bid Submission & Selection Process:  If you are a race director of a 50 km road, 50 mile road, 100 km road, 24 hour road/track, 50 km trail, 50 mile trail, or 100 mile trail race, request the one-page selection criteria letter and the four page bid form.  Complete the bid request form and submit it by November 20, 2000.  MUT will evaluate bids and select championships at the 2000 USATF Conference on December 2, 2000 in Albuquerque, NM.  All race directors who submit bids will be notified of the results of the selection and all bids and selection reasons and results will be published in ultrarunning media.
